THE PROBLEM

KPMG manage the provision of training courses to the British Civil Service and therefore required a workflow automation solution to help automate this process. Approximately 1000 courses are delivered each month across the UK. It was clear that using multiple sub-systems to arrange bookings, course locations and resources, required a large team of administrators to help manage a complex business process manually.

 

THE SOLUTION

At Intreface, we worked closely with technical and business facing teams at KPMG to help model a workflow solution that would seamlessly automate most of the manual intervention in the process. In achieving this, we have been able to provide far greater speed and control in this area of their business.

 

  • Testable processes – We paid great attention from the start to create multiple sub-processes that had single responsibilities. In addition, we could test these processes in isolation and give their team confidence that in their critical business environment, we could test efficiently.

 

  • Maintainable design – We worked hard to ensure we could move our code and configuration through multiple pre-production environments. To do this we built a bespoke update module allowing KPMG to roll out updates with complete control.

 

  • Separation of concerns – Working closely with developers from KPMG meant we could consume a layer of web services provided by the client. This helped to control business logic and creation of presentation data, and supply it on demand to the workflow tool.
